The September Texas Co-op Power Magazine should start hitting TVEC member mailboxes soon. Included in the magazine is your ballot for the 2020 TVEC Board of Directors election.
The TVEC Board of Directors is made up of co-op members. The board plays an important role in setting the strategic direction for the co-op and ensuring that the company maintains its focus on serving members’ needs. Board candidate biographies are included in the special election cover on the magazine.
Voting is an important part of co-op membership! We need a quorum of 3% of members to vote in order to conduct co-op business at the TVEC Annual Membership Meeting.
Election FAQ
Why do we have an election for the cooperative?
TVEC is governed by a board that is made up of members elected from the seven co-op board districts. This offers a level of accountability and control for TVEC members that is unique to co-ops.
Why should I vote in the co-op director election?
Democratic member control is one of the Seven Cooperative Principles that we use to guide the co-op. It is important for co-op members to select the candidates who they want to represent them. To conduct business at the annual membership meeting and for the director election to be valid, at least three percent of the membership must vote in the election.
As an incentive for participation, members who vote are entered into a drawing for cash prizes, including a top prize of $1,000!
Why does the election magazine arrive later than usual?
The TVEC Bylaws state that the notice of the annual membership meeting must occur no more than 30 days prior to the meeting. In order to meet that requirement, the magazine containing the ballot is mailed later than normal.
What do I do if I did not receive my ballot?
TVEC members may get a replacement ballot by contacting TVEC member services. TVEC lobbies are currently closed, but we will mail a replacement copy if time permits, or members may arrange to pick up a replacement at the Kaufman office drive-thru window or by appointment at the Athens district office.
How do I submit my ballot?
A postage-paid return envelope is included with your September Texas Co-op Power magazine. Ballots must be mailed to the accounting firm of Calvetti Ferguson, and received by October 6 to be valid. Ballots may not be submitted with payments, dropped in the TVEC night-drop or returned to TVEC offices.
When will know the results of the election and prize drawings?
Election results and prize winners will be announced during the 2020 TVEC Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting will be held online at 7 p.m. October 8. Register Here for the Annual Meeting.
